Change and development of the different psychological processes in adulthood and old age.
From the moment of conception, human beings are involved in development processes. The field of human development is the scientific study of these processes. Developmental Psychology understands that human development is a process that lasts all lifetime, hence the content has been divided into two subjects to cover all periods of the life cycle of human beings. This subject focuses in the particular periods of adulthood and old age. The importance and interest of this subject is that it provides students with the necessary tools to begin to understand the human being from a holistic and integrated approach.
The concepts studied in this course opens the door to other more specific applications related to health, education and social policy. For example, the study of human development from the psychological perspective can be directly applied to identify risk factors that increase the likelihood of psychosocial, emotional, or behavioral problems, the management of life transitions such as parenthood, widowhood or retirement, the family and couple therapy, or psychosocial intervention with the elderly, among others.
