The thematic block is devoted to the study of enzymology, linkingwith the previous topics about functionally active proteins, which allows students to apply the concepts of protein-ligand binding to the particular case of the enzyme-substrate interaction. It introduces the concept of biological catalysts and studies the nature and properties of protein enzymes. Kinetic aspects are addressed for understanding the role of enzymes in biological processes. We present the changes of enzyme activity, considering the influence of different factors that affect it, such as pH and temperature, especially in inhibitors and their different types. within these issues it is mainly explained the regulation of the enzymatic activity through allosteric modulation and covalent modification of enzymes. It also introduces the concept of isoenzyme and its role in regulating metabolism. The existence of multienzyme complexes arises from the advantages of substrate channeling, not only in terms of flows, but also regarding the regulation of metabolic pathways.
