The course will be assessed by continuous evaluation. The students can get a maximum of 100 points by participating in all the course activities and submitting all the coursework. To pass the course, a student must score at least 50 points.
In addition to the lectures, the course comprises the following activities:
a) Laboratory classes. Participation in these classes allows a student to receive up to 10 points.
b) Problem sets. The instructor will propose 20 problems. Problem resolution will allow the students to obtain a maximum score of 30 points. Students must submit their answers within the period indicated by the instructor for each of the sets. Each set of problems will be discussed during a session convened by the teacher well in advance. To obtain the corresponding score, students must (1) deliver the correct answers, and (2) be able to explain (during the discussion session) the reasoning followed for solving problems. The inability to explain such reasoning will be penalized with the loss of the score assigned to this activity. When submitting each answer sheet, the student agrees to attend the discussion session. Failure to attend such session will also be penalized with the loss of the score obtained to date.
c) Practical exam. The practical exam will be held on the same date and time as the final exam. This exam will consist of 10 questions, each with four alternative answers. This test will allow to obtain a maximum score of 10 points (1 point for each question answered correctly). Questions answered incorrectly will be penalized with 0.33 points.
d) Final exam (test and problems). The student must correctly answer a questionnaire (consisting of 35 test questions with four alternative answers) and solve two problems. The maximum score that can be obtained in the questionnaire is 35 points (1 point for each question answered correctly). Incorrectly answered questions questionnaire will be penalized with 0.33 points. The maximum score to be obtained by the resolution of the problems is 15 points (7.5 points for each problem solved correctly).
Final score:
- Students who do not attend the theory test and problems will receive the grade of Not Presented.
- The final grade of the subject will be the highest from these two: (1) the grade obtained by continuous assessment (minimum passing score: 50 of 100 points), or (2) the grade obtained in the Final exam (minimum score: 25 of 50 points). The first option will require, additionally, that the student has obtained a minimum grade of 17.5 points in Final exam.
- In September and December, there will be a single exam with the same structure and characteristics as the Final exam. For the calculation of the final grade of the subject, which will be carried out as described in the previous paragraph, the score accumulated during the course for the completion of other scoring activities will be taken into account.
