Professional interest

This subject is aimed at studying the psychological factors involved in sports practice at different levels, from performance to practice such as leisure and health. Its objective is to bring students to the applied work of an expert psychologist in physical activity and sport in their different fields of action.

Competencies and learning outcomes

General competencies

Understand the structure and function of the human body at different stages of development.
Recognize the differences between normal human body function and its changes and determine the impact from demographic, environmental, social, and cultural determinants of the health of a population.
Hypothesize, assess information, and promote viable solutions to cases and professional situations.
Ability to analyze, evaluate, and assess individual and group situations, identify problems, interpret data, and formulate solutions to individual and/or group problems.
Assess information critically and apply the scientific method to improve the profession.
Be capable of working in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams and leading multidisciplinary teams.
Ability to update, consolidate, and integrate new knowledge to improve the exercise of the profession using continuous self-learning techniques and critical analysis.

Specific competencies

Be capable of adapting professional interventions to different contexts and situations, working on interdisciplinary teams in hospitals and primary care, as well as in other professional activity organizational contexts.
Ability to make reasoned diagnostic judgments (orally and in writing) after properly applying contrasted analysis procedures of individual and collective behavior, respecting ethical components of the professional and scientific activity of the psychologist, before both the subject under intervention as well as other professionals.
Apply knowledge and technical capacity belonging to psychology to help resolve clinically and/or socially relevant problems, generated either by the conditions of the subject or by particular social events.
Identify the most appropriate psychological intervention techniques in each context to successfully overcome, with guarantees for people, clinical and social problems, as well as designing and applying intervention plans on individual and group levels.

01Distinguish between the different policy areas of applied psychology to physical activity and sport as well as know what the sport psychologist work
02Analyze the psychological processes involved in both athletic performance as those related to initiation sport and physical activity and health
03Reasoning about the psychological effects of the practice of exercise and sport in different populations
04Apply theoretical knowledge of sport psychology to the analysis of appropriate solutions to problems considering different cases exposed

Methodology and grading

Grading

The evaluation of the theoretical part will be conducted by an objective test (30 questions) With three response alternatives. This note will comprise 70% (7 points) of the final grade. The evaluation of the practical part will be assessed through the submission of reports and assistance of each of the practices . When not attend practices or they are not overcome through a review of reports short questions shall be held in each of the practices that are not passed or has not attended, worked on materials during the sessions practices. The practice note will account for 30% (3 points) of the final where they will take account of activities undertaken during the internship. Students must pass with five each of the modules to pass the course

Correction criteria

Theoretical exam: Errors discount. The theoretical note assumes a 70% of the final note

Practical exam: Each practice that has not been exceeded by reports or which has not been attended will be assessed. The practice note accounts for 30% of the final note

Final note = 70% (theory) + 30% (practices). It is necessary to overcome both sides with a five to approve the subject
