Origin of chemical pollution. Chemical contaminants. Distribution and biodegradation in the environment. Assessment of chemical risk.
Knowledge of the laws governing the behaviour and environmental fate of chemical pollutants, along with prior training in the discipline of Toxicology provided by the "Environmental Toxicology" subject, will provide the future professional with the necessary tools to include the rational use of chemicals as a central criterion in environmental impact assessments, design of industrial processes and environmental management. The study of the serious problems associated with Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) should raise the level of awareness and therefore guide their professional performance, about the dire consequences that the model of development imposed by the capitalist system, also in the field of chemicals, has on the Environment and Public Health both for current human populations and for the future generations.
