Basic concepts of pharmaceutical chemistry. Metabolism. Structure-activity relationships. Optimization of drugs. Modification of molecular models to improve physicochemical and pharmacokinetic properties.
Situation in the curriculum:
Química Farmacéutica I is a compulsory semester course (first half) taught in the Degree in Pharmacy, in the third year, with a workload of 6 ECTS credits.
Contents addressed in the course are important to the subjects Química Farmacéutica II (compulsory third year), Farmacología y Farmacoterapia I (compulsory third year), Farmacología y Farmacoterapia II (compulsory third year) and Farmacología y Farmacoterapia III (compulsory fourth year).
Background needed:
Students should have previously passed Técnicas de Laboratorio, Química Orgánica I and Química Orgánica II.
Interest for future career:
The design, synthesis and drug development is a career for Graduates in Pharmacy, which can be addressed in any of its phases in single-discipline or multidisciplinary teams with the participation of organic chemists. The knowledge gained in this course will help the pharmacist to do his/her work independently, or actively working as part of a team that share a common language.
