Description

This course equips students with the skills necessary for conducting research in the field of health service planning, coordination, and improvement. It is aimed at professionals with responsibilities or interests in managing health centers and services, including clinical managers (hospital service or section heads, primary care coordinators).
The course focus is divided into two modules. The first is conceptual, providing key points for designing and evaluating research in clinical management. Its second module is practical, with the student proposing the design of research in clinical management within their means in order to apply theoretical knowledge acquired.

General competencies

Demonstrate systematic competence in the field of medicine, and mastery of the research skills and methods associated with that field.
Demonstrate the ability to conceive, design, put into practice, and adopt a substantial research process.
Be able to promote, within academic and professional contexts, technological, social, or cultural advancement in a society based on knowledge.

Specific competencies

Access scientific literature, databases, documentary sources, and high-level information existing about clinical medicine and related areas.
Design and plan a project that addresses the problem to research to be submitted for evaluation by ethics committees, as well as by research evaluation committees and research funding committees.
Attain the knowledge and abilities necessary for preparing and presenting R&D project financing requests in addition to the dissemination of results thereof.
Be able to participate in specific advanced research meetings.

Know the basis of clinical management and health structures
Formulate research questions in the field of clinical management.
Locate the main sources of evidence for clinical management decisions and its assessment of the evidence
Learn the basics of the tools used in clinical management.
Evaluate the results of studies related to the field of clinical management.

Methodology and grading

Methodology

Problem-based learning: Develop active learning strategies through problem solving that promote thinking, experimentation, and decision making in the student.
Project-based learning: Realization of a project to solve a problem, applying acquired learning and promoting abilities related to planning, design, performing activities, and reaching conclusions.

Grading

Final exercise, (100%). a research project in Clinical Management on an area close to the student who can show the knowledge acquired. The criteria for the assessment of the work will be: Fitness with the contents of the course: (20%), Methodological fitness (50%), applicability of the project (20%) and innovation of the work (10%)
