The University Research Institute “Center of Operations Research” (CIO) was established in 2005 to support research & development activities in statistics, optimization, and information technologies.
The CIO is comprised of UMH researchers from different fields (statistics, mathematics, and IT), forming a qualified interdisciplinary group capable of solving problems currently found in the business world. Throughout its short existence, the institute has managed to consolidate 7 research groups, as well as establish another 4 emerging research groups, all of which are recognized in the Registry of UMH Research Groups.
One of the institute’s main priorities is technological transfer to society of basic and applied research results, and this has led to the application of several national and international patents, as well as the creation of various spinoffs at the UMH Scientific and Business Park. This institute continually searches for ways to improve quality, efficiency, and productivity at both public institutions and private companies.
During the last three years, scientific activity and technological transfer developed by CIO personnel has contributed to obtaining more than a million euros of funding for participation in 44 national and European competitive research projects. Likewise, over this same period, 39 contracts have been signed with public administrations and private companies, which have brought in more than 251,000 euros (25% of its acquired funding).
CIO personnel are currently made up of 39 researchers, 5 contracted researchers, and 3 individuals provide technical and administrative support; 70% of its members are men and 30% are women.
