Description

Introduction to pharmaceutical technology. Pharmaceutical development. Granulometry and rheology of liquids and solids. Basic pharmaceutical operations: pulverization, mixing, dissolving, filtration, desiccation, lyophilization, microencapsulation, sterilization.

Professional interest

Pharmaceutical Technology is concerned with the design, production and evaluation of medical dosage forms. Study of the processes from the technological point of view should integrate the biopharmaceutical dosage forms and routes of administration to ensure the optimal use by the patient and the therapeutic efficacy. The main objective of this course is to provide knowledge to the future pharmacist needed to design, develop and evaluate effective dosage forms, safe and stable.

Specific competencies

Identify, design, obtain, analyze, control, and produce drugs and medicines, as well as other products and raw materials with a health interest for human and/or veterinary use.
Design, prepare, supply, and dispense medicines and other health products of interest.

Professional competencies

Perform standard laboratory procedures, including the use of scientific equipment for synthesis and analysis, including proper instrumentation.
Know the physical and chemical characteristics of the substances used to manufacture medicine.
Know the origin, nature, design, acquisition, analysis, and control of medications and health products.
Design, optimize, and develop pharmaceutical forms that ensure their quality, including the formulation and quality control of medications, the development of master formulas and products prepared in a pharmacy.
Apply quality control to health products, dermo-pharmaceuticals and cosmetics and packaging material.
Understand the processes of liberation, absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of drugs and factors that condition absorption and disposition according to the administration routes.
Understand the physical, chemical, and biopharmaceutical properties of the primary active ingredients and excipients and the possible interactions between them.
Understand the stability of active ingredients and pharmaceutical forms as well as the methods of study.
Understand the basic operations and technological processes related with the production and control of medication.
Develop master formulas and medicinal preparations.

Methodology and grading

Grading

The evaluation of the subject, it is divided into two parts: 1) Theory (60% of the course grade). 2) practice sessions (40% of the course grade). To pass the course will need to approve each and every one of the aforementioned parties. 1. EVALUATION OF THEORETICAL PART: There will be an exam on the date to be announced on personalized access. The review will include the theoretical explained in the classes. The exam will consist of multiple choice questions and / or true-false and / or two short questions. - Evaluation of practices: Students who have attended all practices and given a corresponding group exercises that are required for their development, conducted the examination will consist of short questions of development and / or multiple choice questions and numerical issues The maximum score for each test performed shall be 10 points. NOTE: The aggregate of practices will be saved during one academic year. 3. - GLOBAL ASSESSMENT: A) Students who pass the course: The overall assessment will be made as long as the note of each and every part of the subject is less than five. The final grade for the course will consist of 60% of the part of theory and 40% practical sessions PART B) Students who fail the course:On Septembre students will have to examine only of the failed part of the subject. If this failed part is no pass all the subject (except the practisses) will be evaluated for the next academic course
ENTIRE COURSE IS APPROVED SUBJECT TO NOTE AND ABOVE A 5.00 Evaluable Volunteer Activities: MAKING WORK AND ORAL PRESENTATION IN CLASS Additionally students will be able to perform two types of activities for which the evaluation be used to raise the note (once approved achieved) in the theoretical part. Ie this score can not be used to get approved if not to raise the note from it. They may choose a maximum of 0.5 additional points in the overall score. Be exposed to during the course in one session / sessions previously announced. Work will be done on topics suggested by the teacher and the exposure will be evaluated by the teacher and the other fellow. Students must register in the first month of school to perform work (individually or in pairs) by contacting the professor in the web of the course will describe the proposed work and materials necessary for its realization. -The work will be presented graphically and have 10 minutes for presentation and defense. -For oral exposure assessment will use a template that will hang in advance on personalized access. The evaluation will be conducted by the teacher and students outside the group. Students score will count for 20%.

The exam will last 90 minuts

Correction criteria

Test: 3 wrong answers invalidate 1 correct answer
In the problems will be evaluated the procedure, the results with units and the conclusions derived from the obtained results
