The Histology and Anatomy Department covers the areas of anatomy and human embryology, cell biology, and histology. It provides instruction for the following undergraduate programs: Medicine, Pharmacy, Podiatry, Physiotherapy, and Occupational Therapy at the Sant Joan d'Alacant Campus, in addition to Biotechnology at the Elche Campus. The dissecting rooms as well as microscopes and specimen preparations are used for these. Several members of the department belong to the Institute of Neurosciences and the Institute of Bioengineering. Research is carried out in the areas of embalming, biomechanics, anthropometry, embryology, neuroanatomy, reproductive genetics, cell interaction, cell nutrition, development of devices and systems for interacting with the nervous system, neurobiology of vision, neurorehabilitation, neurobiology of the central nervous system, biology of stem cells in relation to cell therapy, the role of thyroid hormones in the development of the brain during the fetal and early post-partum period, molecular bases of addiction.
