Numerical algorithms; statistics and optimization.
Nowadays, information management is a cornerstone in the development of any profession, especially in the field of engineering. Therefore, to have a basic knowledge of statistics in order to attain a correct organization and analysis of data is essential. For example, in the field of telecommunication engineering, analysis of signals, noise or interferences requires the use of statistical models.
On the other hand, the use of algorithms has become widely spread in different processes in the field of telecommunication engineering such as channel allocation in wireless communications or the routing of information in communication networks. Thus, some basic knowledge of numerical algorithms is needed in the formation of a telecommunication engineer.
Finally, the engineering systems grow in complexity. Therefore, the modeling and optimization of systems is becoming increasingly necessary to improve its performance and efficiency. For example, the design of a communication network requires an analysis that includes, first, to model the system and, later on, to determine the optimum values of the parameters that describe it. Likewise, the use of models and optimization techniques is necessary for improving the decision-making at any business level, which obviously includes any company in the telecommunication field.
