Description
Academic goals
- For individuals, the family constitutes the first socialization institution. Norms, values, behavior, and types of relationships are formed within the family nucleus and passed on to surrounding social contexts.
Today, the variety of family structures is extensive, and families are also subjected to the appearance of new social phenomena that influence their stability and well-being. Violence in various forms, high divorce rates, school truancy, poor employment prospects for new generations, etc., are all phenomena that shape a complex panorama.
Family intervention and therapy take as a paradigm, without undermining other explanatory models, a systemic and relational theoretical framework where the family is in continuous evolution and interrelation with its surroundings.
From this holistic perspective, the family becomes an adaptive and complex system upon which it can act as a treatment unit in both relationships between individuals as well as in dysfunctional patterns that occur within it.
Sociologists, such as Guiddens and Castell, proclaimed that 21st century society would be characterized by constant and abrupt social changes occurring within very short periods, and that the family would be the first to reflect that situation.
Within this scenario of evident uncertainty, professionals in the social and health fields, and all those who work either directly or indirectly with families, should be properly prepared to intervene with the priority of improving families' capabilities, and striving to diminish suffering by their members.
Offering this Master's in Family Intervention and Therapy responds to a growing demand for professionals who need advanced training to address family problems from their different fields of action (health, social, education, etc.), fostering the acquisition of tools and expertise to facilitate preventive, psychoeducational, psychosocial, and therapeutic interventions.
This program, whose degree is conferred by the Miguel Hernández University of Elche, was designed jointly by the Instituto Alicantino de la Familia (an autonomous organization of the Diputación de Alicante dedicated to the practice of family therapy) and Dictia Valencia, S.L. (a teaching institution accredited by the Spanish Federation of Family Therapy Associations, or FEATF, and a founding member of the Chamber of Schools of the European Family Therapy Association, or EFTA). The prestige of both organizations in the area of training on family interventions from the systemic-relational approach is renowned and vast, with more than 20 years of teaching experience.
Furthermore, the accreditation of the training program by the FEATF has been submitted for processing (as an advanced program on family therapy and supervision module) so that once it is obtained, students who fulfill its accreditation requirements may, once their training is complete, request from the FEATF the accredited title of "Family Therapist" as well as the recognition for the hours of supervision (130 hours from the Master's, plus those from the Specialist) and those of those of the personal work (60 hours of FOT, The Family of Origin of the Therapist, plus those from the Specialist).
